GERMANTOWN — Ruth Kathryn (Boice) Lasher passed on November 14, 2021, at the age of 96.

She was born on April 6, 1925, to Roy and Mary Jane (Vosburgh) Boice. She was predecease­d by her husband of over 60 years, Lewis E. Lasher. Ruth loved her extended family. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Lasher of Albany, and Mary Lew (Dennis) Fink of Germantown; her grandson, Jared (Lyndsey) Fink; her great-grandson, Jackson Fink; her sister, Clara Ann (Ronald) Van Tassel; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Ruth was predecease­d by her grandson, Jason Fink; and her brothers, Roy and Harold Boice.

Ruth grew up in Ancram and lived in Germantown during her married life. She and Lew loved the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. She had been cared for at The Ivy Lodge Assisted Living during her final years. She began her education in a one-room schoolhous­e and graduated from Roe Jan Central School. She became a registered nurse at Hudson City Hospital and received her teaching certificat­e from Russell Sage College.

Ruth loved nursing and dedicated her life to it. She initially did private duty, then became the school nurse at Germantown Central School. Ruth took time to be mom to her two daughters and later returned as the school nurse teacher at G.C.S. She helped many students through the challenges of growing up over her 20 plus year career.

In retirement, Ruth and her husband, Lew, volunteere­d to teach first aid through the American Red Cross. They were active members of the Southern Columbia Ambulance Squad. They traveled cross-country multiple times in their RV and found a second home on the Alabama shore. There, they made wonderful friends from all over the country.

Ruth grew up in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ancram and then joined North Germantown Methodist Church.

On Saturday, November 20, visitation will be from 2 - 3 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Traver-mccurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. COVID-19 protocols will be observed so face masks are required.
