TROY — William T. Martin, 74 of Troy, passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2021, after a long illness. Born on July 12, 1947, in Troy, Bill was the son of the late John Henry and Mary A. (Fosmire) Martin Horan and was raised by his grandparen­ts, Charles and Mary B. Fosmire. On May 16, 1969, he married the former Caroline M. (Fiffe) Martin and the two shared a blessed union of 52 years together.

Bill was a clerk with the N.Y.S. Dept. of Taxation and Finance in Albany for 34 years before retiring in 2010. From 1965-1971, Bill was a Navy hospital corpsman stationed with the Marines. Later on from 1983-1985, he was a medic with the Army National Guard. Bill was a L.P.N. and at one time worked for Memorial, Leonard and Samaritan Hospitals for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Lansingbur­gh, shop steward for CSEA Local 690 and also spent 20 years on the Board of Directors for the Campus Children’s Center in Albany. Bill was also a communican­t of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Troy.

In addition to his beloved wife, Caroline, he is survived by his children, Christine (Todd Korn) Martin Durkee and John (Christina) Martin; and his beloved grandchild­ren, Jonathan Hewitt (Tori Hargrave), Allen (Aly) Martin, Bryan Martin (Lena Everitt) and Justin Martin. Bill had several siblings, Robert Fosmire, Bart, William, Anthony, Michael and Francis Horan, Ann Marie Fails, Mary E. Horan, Patricia Marvin, Margaret Sequin and Elizabeth Sequin and Elizabeth Ables. He is also survived by his feline Buddy. Bill was predecease­d by his siblings, John, Thomas "Sonny" and Charles "Chuck" Fosmire, Winifred Rivage, Katherine Skadra, and Charles F. Horan; and his stepfather William Horan. He was also predecease­d by his pets, Putter, Freckles, Tanner, Otto, Sadie and Maxwell.

The family would like to thank Joan Kennedy, The St. Michael Prayer Group for their continued prayers, Kim Gendron NP for her compassion and care for Bill for almost 10 years, St. Peter’s Healthcare, Mohawk Ambulance, and Troy FD Engine 3, who were always there for him when they needed them.

Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with the family on Friday, November 19, from 4-6 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Rd., Troy. Funeral services for Bill will be celebrated on Saturday, November 20, at 10 a.m. in the church with Father James Mackey officiatin­g. Entombment will take place with military honors in St. Agnes Mausoleum in Menands.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made in Bill’s memory to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY, 12204.
