ALBANY — Matthew C. Neeson, 77 of Albany, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 14, 2021.

He was born in Manhattan, the son of the late Thomas J. Neeson, retired battalion chief of the F.D.N.Y. and the late Mary A. Cahill Neeson.

He was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Army. Enlisting in 1964, he served in Germany and then in the Vietnam War from May 1966 through May 1967.

After serving his county, he continued his love of service and joined the New York State Police, retiring in 1987.

Along with his family, his greatest passion in life was his love and respect for law enforcemen­t, veterans and patriotism for his country. He made sure to instill those values in his children and grandchild­ren.

Matt enjoyed talking to everyone, at length. Above all Matt loved time spent with his family. He loved taking pictures, attending events of both his kids and grandkids, talking on the phone and sitting around the dinner table listening and telling stories.

He was a proud family man. He was married to the love of his life Terry for 55 years. He was the cherished father of Michael Neeson, Christine (Daniel) Giglio, and Rob (Ann) Neeson; and grandfathe­r of Sean and Tim Neeson, Allie and Lauren Giglio and Thomas, Matthew and Bridget Neeson. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Frank (Maureen) Neeson, Helen Mooney, and Ceil Emanuel and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Matt was preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine and Marie; and brothers, Thomas, Vincent, Joseph and Peter Neeson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Matt’s family on Thursday, November 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mcveigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please only enter the funeral home from the parking lot doorway. Unvaccinat­ed individual­s must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Funeral services on Friday, November 19, at 9 a.m. in the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany where his funeral Mass will be celebrated. Unvaccinat­ed individual­s must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Following the funeral Mass the Rite of Committal is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., along with military honors, in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
