Brown, Mary Frances (Hogan)
BRADENTON, Fla. — Mary Brown was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. Mary died peacefully on November 9, 2021, with her family by her side.
Born in Albany, the daughter of the late James Hogan and Catherine (Benson) Hogan, she met her late husband, Page Brown, in Boston and lived in Stratham, N.H. for many years before moving to Florida in 2004. Mary was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany and The College of Saint Rose in Albany. After college, Mary earned a Master of Education from Boston College. She taught grade school and later worked as a real estate agent and broker.
Mary loved to travel, teaching, studying the French language, the arts, and warm weather. Above all else, she loved her family. She retired from teaching (a profession she returned to years later) to raise her daughter.
Predeceased by her husband of forty-four years, Mary spent the last years of her life traveling and living independently. She found incredible joy in playing with her granddaughter, Yasmine.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Courtney Brown and Omar Serageldin; a granddaughter, Yasmine; step-grandchildren, Tariq and Malik; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Martha Hogan; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Brown and her husband, Rex Miller, and Jane Sheeran; together with nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by five siblings: James Hogan, Anne Hogan, Kathleen Grogan, Eileen Terpening, and Robert Hogan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life that will take place on Saturday, December 4, at 10 a.m. in the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Oak Park School in Sarasota, Fla., a district center school that provides educational and therapeutic services to students with disabilities, where Mary was a substitute teacher.
