Verstappen’s late pass of Leclerc earns victory

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Red Bull driver Max Verstappen overtook Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari three laps from the end of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for the defending champion’s first win of the Formula One season and 21st of his career on Sunday.

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton finished 10th for Mercedes.

Iditarod: The Iditarod punished three mushers for taking their dogs inside shelter cabins during fierce storms at the tail end of this year’s race. Mille Porsild of Denmark was dropped from 14th to 17th position, while Michelle Phillips of Canada dropped one notch to 18th. Riley Dyche of Fairbanks wasn’t demoted in the standings, but was fined $1,000 after officials determined there were no other mushers close to him that would have been affected by the dogs resting inside. The drop in finishing position equated to $3,450 less for Porsild and $1,000 less for Phillips.
