Expo preparations
The Capital of New York State Black Expo will be hosted at the MVP Arena this year on Nov. 19, according to Albany County Executive Dan Mccoy’s office.
The county is expecting more than 200 vendors and 25,000 people to attend the event, which features workshops and panels promoting economic growth and business opportunities across the state for its fourth year.
Used book store
The Whitney Book Corner, a used bookstore run by the Friends of Schenectady County Public Library, held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration Tuesday for its new retail space at 105 Clinton St., Schenectady, directly across from the Karen B. Johnson Central Library and City Hall, and near the Schenectady
Greenmarket. Managed entirely by the Friends of SCPL, proceeds from the bookstore are used to fund most county library programs, said Christine Witkowski, Friends of SCPL board member.
Landfill meeting
The Rensselaer City School
District will host a public information meeting in conjunction with the Rensselaer Environmental Coalition regarding the Dunn C&D landfill on May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the city school auditorium located at 25 Van Rensselaer Drive.
Those interested can attend the meeting in person or watch the meeting online at stopdunn.org.
Historic businesses
Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner recognized N. Fox Jewelers in Saratoga Springs for being listed on the state’s Historic Business Preservation Registry on Thursday.
The registry accounts for businesses that have operated in the state for at least 50 years and made significant community contributions. Assemblyman John T. Mcdonald III presented a registry certificate to Defazio’s for its 71 years in business on Friday.

Martin, senior portfolio manager with Globalt Investments. “This might be one of those big rallies that takes you back up somewhat before the market turns back down again.”
The S&P 500 rose 93.81 points to 4,023.89. The Dow gained 466.36 points to 32,196.66, while the Nasdaq rose 434.04 points to 11,805. Smaller company stocks also staged a solid rally. The Russell 2000 gained 53.28 points, or 3.1 percent, to 1,792.67.
