COHOES — Eunice S. Antonucci, 99, died on May 13, 2022.

Born in Cohoes, and a lifelong resident, she was daughter of the late Giovanni and Margaret Leonbruno Santarcang­elo. Eunice had a long and distinguis­hed career in nursing and human services, with an emphasis on people with developmen­tal disabiliti­es. She earned her R.N. degree at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass. She later became the director of nursing at Cohoes Memorial Hospital and was awarded a B.S. degree in human services. Eunice founded the first group home in Cohoes for developmen­tally disabled consumers. Until her death, she remained a member of the executive board of the Center for Disability Services.

Eunice has been honored in many ways as a person of high commendati­on for her community interest involvemen­t and accomplish­ments. She also directed various health and human service programs under five Cohoes mayors, beginning with Citizens Party Mayor Jay Mcdonald. In 1981, she purchased Smith’s Restaurant on Remsen Street in Cohoes and ran it with her daughter until 2008. She had been an active member of Holy Trinity Parish in Cohoes and the Cohoes/waterford Elks Lodge. She would often say "I’ve never been bored a day in my life."

She is survived by her children, F. Charles (Christy Callicchia) Antonucci, John P. (Angela) Antonucci and Margaret M. (late John) Kehn. She was the grandmothe­r of Lindsay (Tony) Snow; great-grandmothe­r of Sarah Snow and Wayne Boatwright; and sister of the late Theresa and Salvatore Santarcang­elo, Mary Choiniere, Loretta Santoro, Margaret Sala, V. Joseph, John, James and Gennaro Santarcang­elo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in The Church of the Holy Trinity in Cohoes. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours are on Thursday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Trinity.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Eunice’s memory may be made to The Center for Disability Services, Eunice Antonucci / John Kehn Scolarship Fund, 314 S. Manning Blvd., Albany NY 12208.
