Kennedy, Troy no-hit Academy

Flying Horses’ pitcher strikes out 13 in the gem

Mike Kennedy fired a no-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Troy to a 2-0 win over Albany Academy in the Class A baseball quarterfin­als Friday in Albany.

Albany Academy pitcher Geneo Savoca matched Kennedy for four innings, with neither pitcher allowing a hit. Michael Dinardo was the first Troy hitter to reach base when he walked in the fourth. Dinardo stole second and third and scored the first run on a throwing error.

Kennedy singled in Troy’s other run in the sixth.

Savoca finished with eight strikeouts.

More baseball: Michael Mack tossed a complete-game shutout to lead No. 7 Saratoga to a 2-0 win over No. 2 Guilderlan­d in the Class AA quarterfin­als. Mack worked out of jams in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings and nearly maxed out the number of pitches he could throw before Owen Redick made a diving catch in center field with two outs and two on to end the game. Camden Rhude singled in Charlie Derizzo for Saratoga’s first run in the second inning. Zander Teator singled to center to knock in Nate Rodriguez in the third inning . ... Toph Pelesz’s sacrifice bunt in the ninth inning scored Dylan Mccrudden with the winning run to give Ichabod Crane a 3-2 victory over Coxsackie-athens in the Class B quarterfin­als . ... Also in Class B, top-seeded Catskill escaped with a 5-4 win over No. 8 Schalmont on Cullen Fulling’s walk-off hit in the seventh.

Softball: Jada Lambright hit a three-run home run and Becca Zawistowsk­i homered and threw a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts to spark No. 1 Shenendeho­wa to a 4-1 win over No. 8 Shaker in the Class AA quarterfin­als. Brianna Hardwick homered for Shaker . ... Olivia Urquhart tossed a complete-game four-hitter and Gianna Lenartz went 4-for-4 with three RBIS and three runs scored to lead Columbia to a 12-2 win over Guilderlan­d in the Class AA quarterfin­als. Miranda King had three hits and drove in two runs for the Blue Devils (12-7). Meghan Paul scored a run a stole a base for the Lady Dutch (6-12) . ... Olivia Decitise allowed one hit and struck out 13 as Troy blanked Mohonasen 7-0 in the Class A quarterfin­als. At the plate, Decitise went 4-for-4 with four singles and three RBIS . ... In other Class A action, Cianni Benamati hit a grand slam to propel Burnt Hills-ballston Lake to a 4-1 win over South Glens Falls.

Girls’ lacrosse: Mackenzie Dixson scored seven goals as Greenwich scored seven unaswered goals in the second half to pull away for an 11-3 win over Voorheesvi­lle in the Class D quarterfin­als.
