Yankees’, Mets’ games postponed

-

The Chicago White Sox at New York Yankees game on Friday night was postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday.

The doubleheader will begin at 3:05 p.m. with the second game starting at 7:08 p.m.

The opener of the Rockies’ three-game series against the New York Mets was also postponed Friday, 61⁄2 hours before the scheduled first pitch, with a winter storm warning in effect for the Denver area. The forecast called for 3 to 5 inches of snow at Coors Field.

The teams are scheduled to make it up in a split doubleheader on Saturday at 1:10 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. But more snow was in the forecast for Saturday morning before it was expected to clear, with a low of 34 degrees in the evening.

The Yankees were slated to start left-hander Nestor Cortes against White Sox lefty Dallas Keuchel. Both pitchers will start Saturday instead.

The rainout buys New York an extra day to sort out its banged-up bullpen. Reliever Chad Green left Thursday’s game in Baltimore with right forearm discomfort, and manager Aaron Boone said Friday that the injury may be significant. The team planned more testing before announcing a diagnosis.

Boone also said Triple-a right-hander Luis Gil has a “significant” injury and the team is planning its next action with him. The 23-year-old Gil made one start for the major league team this year and was considered important rotation depth.

For the Mets, righthander Carlos Carrasco (3-1, 3.73 ERA) is to face right-hander German Marquez (1-3, 6.16) in the opener Saturday. Righty Trevor Williams (0-2, 4.20) will work the night game for the Mets, while the Rockies had yet to announce a starter.

Diamondbacks 10, Cubs 6: Josh Rojas launched his first three longballs of the season and Arizona powered past Chicago in a game of home run derby at Wrigley Field. With a strong wind blowing out on a warm day, the teams combined to clear the walls 11 times — the Diamondbacks connected seven times.

Blue Jays 2, Reds 1: Hyun Jin Ryu pitched six shutout innings to earn his first victory of the season, and Toronto held Reds star Joey Votto in check in his return from COVID-19.

Braves 5, Marlins 3: Ronald Acuna Jr. led off the game with a deep double and later singled and stole a base as Atlanta beat Miami in his first game at the stadium where he sustained a season-ending knee injury last year.

Guardians 6, Tigers 1: Jose Ramirez hit a three-run homer and tripled a day after avoiding a serious injury when he fouled a ball off his leg, and Cleveland defeated Detroit.

Cardinals 5, Pirates 3: Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings of one-run ball to extend his domination of Pittsburgh, and battery-mate Yadier Molina keyed a four-run sixth inning with a two-run single.

Dodgers 4, Phillies 1: Freddie Freeman singled three times and drove in two runs, Julio Urias pitched five shutout innings and Los Angeles beat Philadelphia for its sixth straight victory.

Brewers 7, Nationals 0: Eric Lauer pitched seven sharp innings and Rowdy Tellez and Tyrone Taylor homered to lead Milwaukee over Washington.

Rangers 3, Astros 0: Martin Perez pitched his first shutout since 2014, scattering seven singles as Texas beat Houston.
