Former Glens Falls High School star and 2011 College Basketball Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette (BYU), a former firstround draft pick who played for several NBA teams, will be in the 2022 field for The Basketball Tournament, which opens

July 22.

WNBA: Stefanie Dolson scored 16 points, including one of New York’s 13 3-pointers with 1:29 left, and the Liberty beat the Connecticu­t Sun 81-77 . ... Brittney Griner will have a place at the WNBA All-star Game, being named an honorary starter by Commission­er Cathy Engelbert. Griner has been detained in Russia since Feb. 17 after authoritie­s at an airport outside of Moscow said she had vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her bag. Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson received the most votes from fans and were selected as co-captains for the event. They will be joined by Sue Bird and Sylvia Fowles, who both have announced they will retire at the end of the season. Joining Wilson, Stewart and Fowles in the frontcourt are Connecticu­t’s Jonquel Jones, Los Angeles’s Nneka Ogwumike and Chicago’s Candace Parker. The starting guards, in addition to Bird, are New York’s Sabrina Ionescu and Las Vegas teammates Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young.

College baseball: Oklahoma is on to the College World Series finals after beating Texas A&M 5-1. The Sooners will take on either Arkansas or Mississipp­i, who play Friday, in the best-ofthree finals starting Saturday.

High schools: Hawthorne Valley senior Ayaka Suesada was named a scholastic award recipient by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organizati­on. She’ll be recognized at the CDSWOY Awards Gala on Aug. 8 at GE Theatre at Proctors.

NHL: Pete Deboer will coach Dallas about a month after he was fired by Vegas . ... Paul Maurice will coach Florida.

Swimming: Katie Ledecky has extended her record haul of medals from the world championsh­ips in Budapest, Hungary, to 21, with an 18th gold in the women’s 4x200 freestyle relay final.
