-

“The Young and the Restless” star Mishael Morgan made history on Friday night as the first Black person lead to win a Daytime Emmy Award.

At the ceremony in Pasadena, Calif., the 35year-old actor from Trinidad and Tobago said she was “so honored to be a vessel and experience this moment.” Morgan, who plays Amanda Sinclair on the CBS soap opera, claimed the prize for lead actress in a drama. She was previously nominated for supporting actress.

“I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do,” Morgan said during her acceptance speech, according to the Associated Press.

“Now there are little girls all around the world and they’re seeing another step forward and they know that no matter their industry, no matter their vocation, no matter what, they can strive to be the best at what they do. Not only can they achieve it, but they will be celebrated.”

From 2013 to 2018, Morgan portrayed Hilary Curtis Hamilton (formerly Winters) in “The Young and the Restless.”

However, after Hilary was written off the show, Morgan returned in 2019 as her twin sister, Amanda.

“The Young and the Restless” was nominated Friday for 18 Daytime Emmy Awards, including lead actor in a drama, supporting actress in a drama, supporting actor in a drama and drama series.

“I am so immensely proud of our generation,” Morgan said.

“We are breaking glass ceilings left, right and center . ... It’s because of everybody who is out there today who is proving to the world that we can and we will do this thing called equality and unity together.”

Armstrong vows to renounce citizenship

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong

doesn’t wanna be an American idiot.

At a London Stadium concert on Friday, the Oakland-born singer and guitarist vowed to renounce his United States citizenship shortly after the Supreme Court overturned the landmark 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision.

“F— America,” Armstrong shouted. “I’m f— renouncing my citizenship. I’m f— coming here.”

The 50-year-old musician added that there is “too much f— stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f— excuse for a country.”

After a pause, he insisted, “I’m not kidding. You’re gonna get a lot of me in the coming days.”

Green Day performed in the United Kingdom last week as part of its Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer. Armstrong is among several artists who spoke out against the Supreme Court’s actions this weekend onstage.

At England’s Glastonbury music festival, Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Megan Thee Stallion, Lorde and Kendrick Lamar all addressed the Roe vs. Wade news during their respective sets. Performers hurled the F-word repeatedly at the Supreme Court throughout the event.

Teen pop sensation Rodrigo and English musician Lily Allen dedicated a duet of the song “F— You” to the anti-roe justices, while singer-songwriter Bridgers urged the audience to chant “F— the Supreme Court!” Rapper Megan Thee Stallion also led an expletive-laced rallying cry: “My body, my m— choice!”

Other celebrities who have publicly condemned the reversal and/or advocated for abortion rights include Michelle Obama, Quinta Brunson, Patricia Arquette, Lizzo, Ariana Debose and Jodie Sweetin.

Brum injured after being struck by car

A star of a Netflix show suffered minor injuries earlier this week in Kansas City after she was hit by a car.

Maddy Brum, who gained fame from the docuseries “Cheer,” was struck by a car at a crosswalk at 3:33 p.m., according to Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The 19-year-old suffered injuries to her leg and hip and was taken to an area hospital.

On Instagram, Brum posted the car was driving between 20 to 30 mph when it hit her.

“Luckily, I only left with bruises and cuts on my body,” she wrote on the post that included photos of her at the hospital.

Brum was in Kansas City as part of the “Cheer Live 2022 tour.” She gained popularity after appearing on season 2 of “Cheer,” a Netflix series that follows a competitive cheer team from Navarro College in Texas.

Brum said she would continue the tour and do the next few shows to the best of her ability.

The driver of the car that struck was given a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian and having improper plates, Foreman said.
