Blue Jays end Sox’s streak

Gausman strong on mound; Toronto homers three times

Kevin Gausman matched a season high with 10 strikeouts over seven innings, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit one of three Toronto home runs and the Blue Jays halted Boston’s seven-game winning streak, beating the Red Sox 7-2 Monday night.

Guerrero hit a two-run home run, his 18th of the season, Matt Chapman also hit a two-run blast and George Springer added a solo shot as Toronto improved to 6-2 against Boston.

Gausman (6-6) snapped a four-start losing streak, winning for the first time since May 31 against the White Sox. Three of the four hits Gausman allowed were singles.

Boston’s only runs came off newly promoted righthande­r Shaun Anderson in the ninth, when Trevor Story hit a sacrifice fly and Bobby Dalbec added an RBI single that struck Anderson on the foot.

The Red Sox, who came in 7-14 against AL East opponents, lost the opener of a stretch in which they face Toronto, Tampa Bay and the Yankees 20 times in 23 games.

Twins 11, Guardians 1: Gary Sanchez had four RBIS and Sonny Gray pitched seven superb innings to help Minnesota stretch its lead in the AL Central with a blowout of Cleveland. Sanchez hit a three-run homer in the second inning off Triston Mckenzie (4-6).

Cardinals 9, Marlins 0: Juan Yepez had his first career multihomer game and Adam Wainwright pitched seven scoreless innings as St. Louis beat Miami. Yepez drove in five runs. Paul Goldschmid­t went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBIS.

Nationals 3, Pirates 2:

Maikel Franco hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning, and Washington beat Pittsburgh in the opener of a three-game series. Luis Garcia had three hits for Washington, which has won five of its past seven games.

for their roles in a benchescle­aring brawl during the second inning of Sunday’s game. Nevin and Winker were two of 12 players or coaches suspended between the teams, according to an MLB release Monday night. Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford received five games, Angels pitchers Ryan Tepera and Andrew Wantz were suspended for three, and Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez, Angels reliever Raisel Iglesias and major league interprete­r Manny Del Campo received two games. Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon, who is out for the rest of the

season after undergoing wrist surgery, will be suspended five games when he returns from the injured list. For now, he is prohibited from sitting on the bench for the next seven games . ... New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill will be out until at least midaugust after the team moved him to the 60-day injured list. Megill will not throw for four weeks . ...
