AUSTELL, Ga. — George L. Sparks passed away on June 16, 2022, at the age of 89. George was a U.S. Airforce Veteran and was the third black patrol officer hired by the Albany Police Department where he served 37 years before retiring to Atlanta, Ga. George had a passion for constructi­ng things, traveling, bowling and spending time with friends in the Quarterbac­k Club and the Knights of Columbus Fraternal Service Organizati­on. He loved his family and will be sorley missed.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Barry Sparks, Sr. and Florence Hicks; his aunt, (Big) Ruth Hill who raised him; his eldest sister, Ruth Wortham, his youngest sister, Bertha Dent; and his granddaugh­ter, Kerry Moran. Memories of George will be cherished by his partner and best friend, Theresa Thomas of Austell, Ga.; beloved brother Barry Sparks, Jr. (Edna) of Albany, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Benjamin Dent; his children, Shirley Williams (Kevin) of Chester, England, Georgina Henry of London, England, Gregory Sparks, Sr. of Austell, Ga., Kimberly Sparks of Cary, N.C., Sheila Mclaughlin of Los Angeles, Calif., Deborah Mcclung (Belinda) of Washington, D.C.; his grandchild­ren, Adam, Patricia, Victoria, Ciara, Emma, Casera, Monica, Gregory, II., Rashad Jamal, Khalid; twelve great-grandchild­ren; two great-greatgrand­children; his God daughter and niece, Benita Jackson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at Davis Struempf Funeral Home, 1975 E. West Connector, Austell, GA 30106 (private viewing from 9 -10 a.m., public viewing 10-11 a.m..)

In lieu of flowers, expression­s of sympathy can be made to the American Heart Associatio­n in memory of George L. Sparks or mailed to the family of George Sparks c/o Davis Struempf Funeral Home, 1975 E. West Connector, Austell, GA 30106
