SARATOGA SPRINGS — PDT Market, what is being described as a gourmet marketplace, will fill the former Price Chopper Limited supermarket location at 55 Railroad Place, it was announced Monday.

Chef Adam Foti, founder and owner of PDT Catering, said he plans to open the market this fall in the 19,000-square-foot location after construction is completed.

The Price Chopper operation closed April 16. Foti’s business will include a specialty grocery, full-service bar, private events, cooking classes, as well as gifts and home goods.

“We’re so excited to expand our brand with this new venture and bring our passion for food directly to downtown Saratoga. Our vision for PDT Market is to create a distinctive experience that transports people to another place and in the process transforms our community,” Foti said in a statement.

“We want to be Saratoga’s favorite place to eat, shop and learn — a familiar place that comforts all both inside and out,” Foti continued.

Price Chopper opened in 2012 to serve the city’s downtown. The grocery store chain opted not to renew its lease.

The transformation of the space will be done by ABN Design, Paone Architecture, and Bonacio Construction, according to the PDT news release. An opening date will be announced in September.

PDT Catering has served the Saratoga Springs area as well as the Capital Region and New England for more than a decade. Foti created the “premier boutique caterer and lifestyle brand.” PDT is the abbreviation for “Pomme de Terre,” which translates from Old French (the region’s language up until about the 15th century) to “apple from the earth,” according to the release.
