Kinderhook concert series celebrates Steinway gift Feb. 12

-

KINDERHOOK — The 2022-23 season of Concerts in the Village continues with a program celebrating the largest single gift in its history: a concert-quality Steinway piano for Van Buren Hall in the village of Kinderhook.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, the Broad Street Orchestra will offer works of Mozart, Kraus and Beethoven, with guest pianist Ji Youn Lee.

“In addition to a donor of remarkable generosity who has been much inspired by CITV’S past performances, we have others to thank for this good fortune, including the Trustees of the village of Kinderhook and a longtime CITV supporter who has kindly underwritten expenses related to the piano’s arrival in the hall, now its new home,” Artistic Director David Smith said. “Although this Steinway piano will be used frequently in CITV’S own Van Buren Hall concerts, we have decided to make this fine instrument available to other qualified performers. The benefit to Kinderhook, in fact the entire region, will be significant.”

The Feb. 12 concert — “Grand Indeed! A Steinway in Van Buren Hall” — will open with Mozart’s Serenade for Strings “Eine kleine Nachtmusik.” Concertmaster Elizabeth Silver leads the ensemble.

The Symphony in C minor of Joseph Martin Kraus follows. The orchestra will be joined by pianist Lee for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

Van Buren Hall is located at 6 Chatham St. (Route 9), Kinderhook. A lift is available to the second floor. Suggested contribution $20, with students and children free. Reservations are recommended. For further information, visit concertsinthevillage.org. Covid protocol: Masking optional.
