Albany Law School’s Kate Stoneman Honorary Committee announces that Teneka E. Frost ’02, Schenectady’s first Black City Court judge, is this year’s recipient of the Miriam M. Netter ’72 Kate Stoneman Award, presented to those who demonstrate a commitment to seeking change and expanding opportunities for women in the legal profession. Judge Patricia Marks ’74, first female fulltime assistant district attorney in the Monroe County district attorney’s office, and Secretary Alejandra N. Paulino ’02, first Latina to serve as secretary of the New York Senate, also will be honored with awards March 23.
Annual attendance at state parks, historic sites, campgrounds and trails run by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation saw a record 79.5 million visits in 2022, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office. Total
visits statewide increased by more than 1 million compared to the previous year. Among the most-visited were Niagara Falls State Park (9.4 million visits),
Jones Beach State Park (8.5 million visits), Robert Moses State Park (3.8 million visits) and Saratoga Spa (3.5 million visits).
The Trust to Conserve
Northeast Forestlands announced that 15 logging firms in Maine, New York and Vermont achieved their Master Logger certificate. The New York firms are Bill Camp Logging of Fort Ann, Day’s Timber Harvesting of Averill Park and Sweeney’s Tree and Land Management of Petersburgh.
Stewart’s Shops served its new Southwest Corn Chowder Feb. 11 at Saratoga Chowder Fest and raised $1,545 at the event. It presented a check to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to support its mission to feed those in need. The donation will provide more than 6,000 meals.
SUNY Cobleskill President Marion A. Terenzio, PH.D., has been appointed to the New
York State Rural Ambulance Task Force, representing the college and Schoharie County in evaluating the challenges faced by ambulance service providers in rural areas.
On Friday, March 3 at Wolfert’s Roost Country Club, The Women’s Fund of the Capital Region will recognize this year’s Trailblazers and the Capital District Women’s Employment Resource Center’s Community Leading Star, at the 13th Trailblazers Awards Luncheon. The honorees are: Gladys I. Cruz, district superintendent/chief executive officer, Questar III BOCES; Gwen Wright, interim executive director, New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault; and Hope Derocha, whole life leader, transformational coach, The Hopeistic Way.
