ALBANY — On March 11, 2023, it was decided that the Communion of Saints needed a very special person to join their community. The angels then escorted Victor M. Alicea Sr. from the Teresian House to eternal rest with our Lord. His family was with him when he passed.

Victor was born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico in 1943, the son of Rafael Alicea and Anna Santana Alicea. He moved with his family to New York City at the age of nine and assumed the role of a responsible son who learned English quickly to help his parents navigate their new location. Knowing the importance of education, Victor worked his way through Bronx Community College and City College earning a bachelor’s degree. He was awarded a Fellowship to Rutgers University where he completed his master’s in social work. This degree allowed Victor to pursue a career working with troubled youth.

Victor was an athlete at heart. He ran in many N.Y.C. Marathons as well as the local Turkey Trots. He was accepted by the Boston Marathon, injured his ankle and was unable to run. The following year he did his very best time at the N.Y.C. Marathon. His motto always was “simply do your best.”

He was a member of the Albany JCC for over 40 years. He was an avid swimmer and participated in many activities. Long-lasting friendships were maintained for many years. His trips to Europe with his wife Jennifer, family and friends, were highlights in his life. He absolutely loved seeing the places he had read about. Victor loved his beach vacations to the Jersey shore with family, enjoying sun and sand and hours in the ocean. His time spent with his best buddy, son-in-law, Lenny, in Las Vegas on multiple vacations, were very special to him.

Victor is survived by his beloved wife Jennifer; as well as his cherished children, Deonicia (Leonard), Victor Jr. (Karina). Granddaughters, Daenerys Alicea and Carmalina Liuzzi (Giles), were treasured and loved by Papa. In addition, his brother Rafael Alicea (Patricia), and sister Elsie Mendez. Brothers-inlaw, Leonard R. Ricchiuti (Mary), and Rocco Ricchiuti (Tricia). Many nieces and nephews adored their uncle Victor including godson, Jason Alicea (Jessica), Beth Fiorini, (Alberto), Amanda Ricchiuti, RJ Ricchiuti, Nick Ricchiuti, and Sara Ricchiuti. Amy Jane Ricchiuti always had a very special place in his heart. He will be greatly missed by many cousins and friends.
