MOVIE QUIZ

- — C.J. Lais Jr.

Proving again that there is a holiday for every day, next Monday is National Joe Day. Yes, a day to celebrate guys named Joe, Joseph or Joey. Your Average Joes, Ordinary Joes, Joe Blows, Joe Schmoes, etc.

Heck, we even have a Joe in the White House now.

This week’s quiz is dedicated to the movie actors, characters and titles that claim some version of Joe for their names. For brevity’s sake, however, we’ve avoided international variations like Jose, Yusuf or Giuseppe.

1. Joe Mantegna shares the same first name with his character, Joey Zasa, in what 1990 Oscar-nominated sequel?

2. Peter Boyle and Nicolas Cage, stars of two unrelated movies named “Joe,” in 1970 and 2013, respectively, co-starred in what 1992 rom-com, also featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and James Caan?

3. Joeys can be women as well as men. Which one starred opposite Ben Affleck and Jason Lee in Kevin Smith’s “Chasing Amy”: Joey King, Joey Lauren Adams or Joey Heatherton?

time. Name the 2023 film.

5. True or false: Burgess Meredith, best known for his Oscar-nominated role of Mickey in 1976’s “Rocky,” appeared in the

Elvis film “Stay Away, Joe,” as the title character in “Joe Butterfly,” as real-life war correspondent Ernie Pyle in “Story of G.I. Joe,” as lawyer Joseph Welch in the

6. Which of these films did not feature a future Oscar winner in the title role: “Meet Joe Black,” “Joe Kidd,” “Joe Versus the Volcano,” “Killer Joe” or “Joe Dirt”?

8. In 1979, Meryl Streep co-starred in not only “The Deer Hunter” — her first Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning role — but also in “The Seduction of Joe Tynan.” Who played the title role, as well as wrote the screenplay?

9. Match the character named Joe with the movie they appeared in: A. Joe Buck, B. Joe Friday, C. Joe Gillis, D. Joey Lamotta; I. “Dragnet,” II. “Raging Bull,” III. “Midnight Cowboy,” IV. “Sunset Boulevard”

?? Sony Pictures ?? Joseph Gordon-levitt (left, with three hours worth of prosthetics) and Bruce Willis both play characters named Joe (sort of) in Rian Johnson's underrated time-travel gem, "Looper." Another connection between the two: Joe Gor-lev once again had an association with his given name by appearing in the truly horrible "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra," while Willis signed on to co-star in the equally bad sequel, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." Oh, and Willis' character's name? General JOE Colton.
