Malta’s leaders not listening to residents

- Tom Lochner Malta

It’s absolutely shameful Malta’s residents are not being represented by their elected representatives. The town has ignored the local neighborhoods’ needs when it comes to massive developments that will change the fabric of Malta forever. Town leaders insist it’s for the sake of progress.

One wonders why people chose to live in Malta; surely not because they wanted to live in or next to a treeless commercial development. Malta’s welcome sign to Luther Forest says, “To Live in a Forest.” What happens when the forest is gone — will the motto be “To Live in a City?” The town’s supervisor seems more concerned for big business and the developers who see an opportunity than for the little guys who put him in office. The town insists they engage the locals, but if you ask the locals you’ll get a different narrative.

Saratoga Lake’s shoreline in Malta is seeing a transformation with a proposed commercialresidential condominium development replacing a small local marina. The motto on the shore will be “To Live in an Atlantic City-like Community.” So much for “To Live in a Forest.”
