HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL RANKINGS

There are 17 area squads that are state-ranked this week among the six classifica­tions. Five of them reside in the top five in their class: Averill Park (No. 5, Class AA), Catholic Central (No. 5, Class A), Albany Academy for Girls (No. 2, Class B), Greenville (No. 5, Class B) and Greenwich (No. 2, Class C).

This is the first season using the six-classifica­tion system for basketball. We are only ranking three teams in Class AAA as there are only six schools in that classifica­tion.

Class AAA

1. Shenendeho­wa (5-1, Last week No. 1):

Abby Stuart scored 15 points in a 58-41 victory over Wallkill and Gabby Stuart delivered 20 points in a 73-60 win against Canandaigu­a at the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase.

2. Albany (7-1, LW No. 2): The Falcons, in a showdown of stateranke­d squads, defeated Canandaigu­a 54-47 at the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase.

3. Shaker (7-3, LW No. 3): The Blue Bison split two games at the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase, beating Hanover (N.H.) 55-22 and dropping a 64-62 decision against Wallkill.

Team to watch: Colonie (2-4)

Class AA

1. Averill Park (8-0, LW No. 1):

Produced a pair of quality victories with decisions over Class AAA state-ranked squads in Our Lady of Lourdes (70-39) and Cicero-north Syracuse (58-34).

2. Bethlehem (4-3, LW No. 2): The Eagles, despite receiving 25 points from Kaitlyn Robbins, dropped a 61-54 verdict against Seminaire Saint-francois.

3. Columbia (6-2, LW No. 3): The Blue Devils play Friday vs. Champlain Valley Union at the Amsterdam Holiday College Showcase.

4. Queensbury (6-1, LW Not rated): The Spartans lifted their winning streak to five games with wins against Amsterdam and Schuylervi­lle.

5. Mohonasen (5-3, LW No. 5): Senior guard Isabella Petrocci tallied 24 points, including six 3pointers, in a 65-32 victory against Schenectad­y.

Teams to watch: Ballston Spa (5-4), Burnt Hills-ballston Lake (4-5), Niskayuna (5-2)

Class A

1. CCHS (6-0, LW No. 1): Tanavia Turpin netted 23 points as the Crusaders defeated La Salle 72-22.

2. Broadalbin-perth (7-1, LW No. 2): The Patriots, tied with Queensbury for the best record in the Foothills Council, are ranked No. 13 in the state.

3. Schalmont (3-4, LW No. 3):

The Sabres have won two straight and return to action Wednesday vs. Niskayuna.

4. Holy Names (4-5, LW No. 4):

Maggie Volmer and Ryan Carroll each scored 17 points as the Panthers produced a 67-33 decision over Utica Proctor.

5. Glens Falls (6-2, LW No. 5): Nine players scored, paced by 10 points from Piper Eddy, as the Black Bears beat Stillwater 52-32.

Class B

1. Albany Academy for Girls (6-2, LW No. 1):

The secondrank­ed Bears split a pair of games at the Averill Park Tournament vs. Class AAA state-ranked teams — defeating Cicero-north Syracuse 62-41 and falling 54-53 against Our Lady of Lourdes.

2. Greenville (6-0, LW No. 2): The Spartans, ranked No. 5 in the state, return to Patroon Conference play Tuesday against Rensselaer.

3. Mechanicvi­lle (8-1, LW No. 3):

Molly Disiena led three players in double digits with 12 points in a 49-37 victory against La Salle.

4. Tamarac (5-1, LW No. 4): Kayla Beaudoin scored 20 points to help propel the Bengals past Ichabod Crane 47-34.

5. Cobleskill-richmondvi­lle (4-1, LW No. 5): The Bulldogs return to their Colonial Council schedule Jan. 5 vs. Ichabod Crane.

Teams to watch: Coxsackiea­thens (4-1), Voorheesvi­lle (4-1)

Class C

1. Greenwich (7-0, LW No. 1):

Brooke Kuzmich produced 20 points and eight rebounds and Adrianna Rojas contribute­d 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Witches’ 63-16 decision over Schuylervi­lle.

2. Berne-knox-westerlo (6-0, LW No. 2): Bella Daguillo poured in 25 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, as the Bulldogs beat Schoharie 82-33.

3. Duanesburg (6-2, LW No. 3): Allison O’hanlon scored 19 points and Alex Moses added 16 points in a 56-51 loss in overtime against Simsbury.

4. Maple Hill (6-0, LW No. 4): Addi Loszynski led all scorers with 28 points as the Wildcats defeated Mekeel Christian Academy 68-15.

5. Warrensbur­g (8-1, LW No. 5): The Burghers return to action Friday with a nonleague contest against Cambridge.

Class D

1. Bishop Gibbons (5-1, LW No. 1):

Senior guard Angelina Deitz ranks sixth in Section II at 23.0 points per game.

2. Northville (6-1, LW No. 2):

Hailey Monroe pumped in 33 points as the Falcons defeated Galway 52-25.

3. Hartford (5-1, LW No. 3):

Mckenzie Johnson scored a career-high 29 points to help the Tanagers defeat Saratoga Central Catholic 60-43.

4. Salem (4-3, LW No. 4):

Sierra Phillips finished with 22 points as the Generals marched past Argyle 50-42.

5. Fort Ann (4-4, LW NR):

The Cardinals begin a string of three straight road games Jan. 5 at Corinth.
