Albany man headed to prison in slashing, shooting cases

ALBANY – An Albany man is heading to state prison in a 2021 slashing case and shooting the following summer, the Albany County district attorney’s office said Friday.

Raheem Hines, 46, was sentenced to concurrent terms of 25 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision before Judge Roger Mcdonough and Judge Andra Ackerman (both judges handed down the same sentence), according to the district attorney’s office.

Hines was indicted on a firstdegree assault charge alleging he sliced the face of a woman, causing serious injury on Aug. 23, 2021, at a Central Avenue location.

An indictment handed up against Hines in 2022, charged him with attempted murder, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon for attempting to cause the death of a woman, then age 60, inside her Partridge Street home as he shot her from her porch in May 2022. According to the criminal complaint, the shooting was caught on security camera video.

In October last year, Hines pleaded guilty to the assault charge for the slashing and attempted murder for the shooting incident, prosecutors said.

The district attorney’s office provided this account from the shooting victim: “Mr. Hines had a choice during the commission of this crime, and had every opportunity to avoid shooting me. Indeed, Mr. Hines shot me after having walked away from the scene twice. While Mr. Hines and I are both fortunate that the result of his crime was not even more serious, the shooting and recovery have impacted every aspect of my life.”

Jessica Blain-lewis, chief of the district attorney’s homicide and violent crimes bureau, called it a senseless act of violence. “This individual opted to shoot an individual inside their own home, for nothing other than her attempting to stop him from stealing a motorcycle,” she said.
