Shiffrin rallies to slalom victory

FLACHAU, Austria — Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated an emotional win in a women’s World Cup night race Tuesday, edging out Slovakian Petra Vlhova in another gripping duel of their ongoing slalom rivalry.

Shiffrin trailed Vlhova by 0.07 seconds after the first run but posted the second-fastest time in the final run to win the race by 0.27. Olympic giant slalom champion Sara Hector was 1.11 behind in third for the Swede’s first-ever podium in slalom.

Shiffrin’s 94th career win came two days after she visited her partner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde in a hospital following his skiing crash.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Lightning say captain Steven Stamkos will remain with the team through at least the end of the regular season. General manager Julien Brisebois made it clear that Stamkos will not be traded before the March 8 deadline. Stamkos, who turns 34 next month, is in the final season of an eight-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $8.5 million.
