Covington sparks Albany to win

Daniel Covington nailed a 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to give Albany 6865 win over Burnt Hillsballs­ton Lake in a Suburban Council boys’ basketball game Friday in Albany.

Sincere Allah scored a game-high 26 points for the Falcons. Ben Kline led Burnt Hills with 21 points.

Covington got hot late, sinking three 3-pointers in the the final eight minutes, including the game-winner, to help his team prevail. He made five shots from beyond in the arc and finished with 23 points. More boys’ basketball: Taconic Hills cruised to a 7640 win over visiting Cairodurha­m in a Patroon Conference game. Zach Rowe scored 21 points and Tristan Super chipped in with 15 to lead the Titans. Jake Young scored half of the Mustangs points, finishing with a team-best 20. Nordic skiing: Forrest Slingerlan­d of Glens Falls and Emma Murray of Saratoga Springs were victorious at the Johnstown/guilderlan­d Invitation­al at Lapland Lake. Slingerlan­d handily won the boys race in 23 minutes, 6.7 seconds. Patrick Cirillo and Alden Guay finished second and third, respective­ly, to lead Queensbury to the team title. Murray won the girls’ race in 27:20.3, nearly 40 seconds ahead of Courtney Krawiecki, who finished second to lead Shenendeho­wa to the girls’ team title. Girls’ basketball: Arianna Brandon had 16 points and Gianna Cirilla added 15 points to lift Schalmont over Cobleskill 53-29 in a Colonial Council battle. The Sabres trailed 16-14 at the halftime break but outscored the Bulldogs 20-5 in the third quarter to take control of the game and run away with the win . ... Mayfield raced out to a commanding 28-7 firstquart­er lead and rolled past host Middleburg­h 8027 in a Western Athletic Conference game.
