Greinke helps Dodgers defeat D’Backs

Brewers earn eighth consecutiv­e victory

PHOENIX — Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Zack Greinke improved to 3-0 as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbac­ks 8-5 on Saturday night.

Gonzalez, who had a two-run homer and five RBIs in the series opener Friday, followed that up with a shot to the left-field seats off Wade Miley (2-2) with two outs in the third inning.

Greinke gave up a run on eight hits in 5⅓ innings, striking out eight with no walks.

Miley, who has two of Arizona’s three wins this season, gave up five runs and eight hits in five innings.

ROCKIES 1, GIANTS 0: In San Francisco, Tommy Kahnle and four other relievers combined for two-hit ball over six innings after Brett Anderson was injured, leading Colorado past Matt Cain and San Francisco.

Troy Tulowitzki had a sacrifice fly in the third inning for Colorado. Kahnle (2-0) allowed one base runner in two innings. Matt Belisle, Adam Ottavino, Rex Brothers and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning apiece to complete the three-hitter.

Anderson left the game with a bruised left index finger.

BREWERS 3, PIRATES 2: In Milwaukee, Carlos Gomez hit a leadoff homer and Jonathan Lucroy drove in the tie-breaking run with an eighthinni­ng single as Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh for its eighth consecutiv­e victory.

Gomez got Milwaukee started with a 432-foot drive to center field off Edinson Volquez, and Khris Davis scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. After Pittsburgh tied it, Lucroy drove in Ryan Braun with a single in the eighth.

INDIANS 12, WHITE SOX 6: In Chicago, Ryan Raburn hit a tie-breaking, two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning, leading Cleveland over the White Sox.

Nick Swisher, Jason Kipnis and David Murphy homered for Cleveland, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Murphy added a threerun triple in a four-run ninth against Donnie Veal.

ORIOLES 2, BLUE JAYS 1 (12): In Baltimore, Steve Lombardozz­i tripled and scored on a single by David Lough in the 12th inning, giving Baltimore a victory over Toronto.

Toronto trailed 1-0 with two outs in the ninth when Colby Rasmus hit a homer off Tommy Hunter on a 1-2 pitch. In the 12th, Lombardozz­i hit a one-out drive to center off Todd Redmond (0-1) before Lough sliced an opposite-field liner to left.

PHILLIES 5, MARLINS 4 (10): In Philadelph­ia, Jimmy Rollins homered with two outs in the 10th inning as Philadelph­ia overcame two homers by Giancarlo Stanton to beat Miami.

Rollins drove a 2-2 pitch from Dan Jennings (0-1) into the seats in left. It was the 201st career homer for Rollins.

BRAVES 6, NATIONALS 3: In Atlanta, Freddie Freeman had three hits, including a homer, as Atlanta beat Washington.

B.J. Upton had two hits, including his first homer, and Dan Uggla drove in two runs for Atlanta. Braves lefthander Alex Wood (2-1) allowed one run on six hits in five innings.

YANKEES 7, RED SOX 4: In New York, Brian McCann put an emphatic end to his season-opening slump, hitting his first two home runs to help the Yankees beat John Lackey and Boston.

Carlos Beltran, Alfonso Soriano and Kelly Johnson also connected as the Yankees scored all their runs on homers. Lackey was tagged for a career-high four home runs.

CARDINALS 10, CUBS 4: In St. Louis, Matt Carpenter drove in two runs and Adam Wainwright saved a tired bullpen by lasting seven innings for the Cardinals vs. Chicago.

It was hardly a vintage performanc­e by Wainwright (2-1). He gave up a homer to Junior Lake on his first pitch and allowed six more hits and three runs after that. He struck out eight. The four runs were twice as many as Wainwright yielded in his first two starts.

TIGERS 6, PADRES 2: In San Diego, Justin Verlander (1-1) had the first two hits of his career and pitched seven strong innings to lead Detroit past San Diego.

Verlander, who came in 0-for-26 with 15 strikeouts, singled up the middle in the second inning and singled to right in the fourth.

ASTROS 6, RANGERS 5 (10): In Arlington, Texas, Jason Castro tripled with one out in the 10th and Jose Altuve had a tie-breaking sacrifice fly to help Houston beat Texas and end a 12-game skid against its instate rival. Marwin Gonzalez scored off Altuve’s fly off Joakim Soria (1-1).

RAYS 1, REDS 0: In Cincinnati, Alex Cobb went seven innings, extending Tampa Bay’s run of solid starting pitching, and James Loney homered for a victory over Cincinnati. Cobb (1-1) pitched seven innings and limited Cincinnati to four hits.

TWINS 7, ROYALS 1: In Minneapoli­s, Joe Mauer hit his first home run of the season and free-agent acquisitio­n Ricky Nolasco (1-1) earned his first win for Minnesota in the victory over Kansas City.

ATHLETICS 3, MARINERS 1: In Seattle, Sonny Gray allowed one run in seven innings and Josh Donaldson hit a two-run homer as Oakland beat Seattle.

METS 7, ANGELS 6 (13): In Anaheim, Calif., the Mets’ Anthony Recker led off the 13th inning with a home run against rookie Matt Shoemaker and also had a two-run single as New York beat Los Angeles.
