Boise State wins at SDSU, grabs share of first

Broncos end with big run, sweep the season series

SAN DIEGO — Boise State grabbed a share of the Mountain West Conference lead and put itself in position for the top seed in the coming league tournament with a 56-46 comeback win at No. 24 San Diego State on Saturday.

The Broncos (22-7, 12-4) went nearly eight minutes without a field goal in the second half to trail 39-32 with less than 10 minutes left. But they went on a 15-2 run and never trailed again in breaking the Aztecs’ 29-game home winning streak.

Boise State swept the season series with the Aztecs (22-7, 12-4), meaning it would win a tiebreaker if the teams finish tied for first. Each team has two games remaining.

The Broncos were led by Derrick Marks with 18 points — but he was just 6 of 22 from the floor. James Webb III was 6-of-10 and added 16 points for Boise State. Winston Shepard led SDSU with 16 points.

UNLV 69, WYOMING 57: In Las Vegas, Nev., Patrick McCaw hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead UNLV (16-13, 7-9), which went 11-of-19 on 3-point tries. Josh Adams scored 24 points, his third 20-plus game in his last four, to lead Wyoming (21-8, 10-6).

NEVADA 62, SAN JOSE STATE 51: In Reno, Nev., AJ West scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Nevada snap its three-game losing skid and extending the Spartans (2-26, 0-18) losing streak to 18 straight.

It was West’s 14th double-double of the season. Tyron Criswell added 15 points and 11 boards for Nevada (9-19, 5-11), which shot only 33.3 percent from the field but hit 34 of 47 at the free-throw line.

UTAH STATE 74, AIR FORCE 60: At Air Force Academy, Colo., Julion Pearre had five three- pointers and 21 points to lead Utah State (1810, 11-5), which won its sixth straight. Hayden Graham led Air Force (13-15, 6-11) with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

State men

WEST TEXAS A&M 96, ENMU 86: In Canyon, Texas, Eastern New Mexico (7-20, 0-14 Lone Star) finished the league season winless after falling to the Buffaloes (17-11, 7-7).

WNMU 84, NMHU 83: Gavon Wood’s 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play proved to be the gamewinner for the Mustangs (3-23, 3-19 RMAC). Jonathon Mines poured in a game-high 33 points for Highlands (5-21, 5-17).

MWC women

WYOMING 99, UNLV 68: In Laramie, Wyo., the Cowgirls had three 20-point scorers in a game for the first time this season and shot 62 percent from the field. The loss knocked UNLV (13-14, 10-6) out of contention for a top-two fin-

ish in the league. Kayla Woodward recorded a game-high 23 points along with eight rebounds for the Cowgirls (14-12, 9-7). Danielle Miller scored 15 points in 27 minutes for the Lady Rebels.

BOISE STATE 64, SAN DIEGO STATE 48: In Boise, Idaho, Shalen Shaw’s 15 points led four double-figure scorers for the Broncos (18-9, 10-6) in the win over the Aztecs (10-17, 7-9).

UTAH STATE 84, AIR FORCE 50: In Logan, Utah, guard Funda Nakkasoglu had 22 points, nine assists and was one of four double-figure scorers for the Aggies (8-20, 5-11). Utah State (8-20, 5-11) led just 29-27 at halftime.

SAN JOSE STATE 81, NEVADA 72: In San Jose, Calif., Ta’Rea Cunnigan scored 26 points and the Spartans (12-15, 6-10) won despite shooting just 39 percent from the field. Nevada’s (8-19, 4-12) 6-foot-8 senior center Mimi Mungedi notched her 10th double-double of the season with a career-high 25 points and 14 rebounds.

State women

NMSU 80, UTPA 60: In Las Cruces, the Aggies (19-7, 12-1) defeated Texas-Pan American to clinch the outright 2014-15 WAC regular-season championsh­ip. NMSU had five players in double figures, led by Brianna Freeman who had her eighth double-double of the season — seventh in WAC play — with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

WEST TEXAS A&M 99, ENMU 67: In Canyon, Texas, senior forward Tori Tucker recorded the fifth double-double of her career with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Zias (9-17, 5-11 Lone Star) were routed by the Lady Buffs.

WNMU 51, NMHU 45: In Silver City, Stephanie Moore had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs ((14-12, 11-11 RMAC), who clinched the eighth seed for the league tourney beginning Tuesday. Highlands finishes 6-20, 5-17.
