HIGH-ENERGY COUNTRY

Kyle Martin sings about what he knows about

- By Adrian Gomez

In November alone, Kyle Martin spent most of the month traveling through five different states while on tour. This is the country singer’s life right now — and he wants it to get busier.

“I’m ready to take the next step,” he says. “With the new album, I’ve been able to feel more confident on stage.”

And being on stage, Martin gives himself up completely to the music.

“I really get into my shows,” he says. “And the Dirty Bourbon really liked the energy I was bringing to my set. They asked me to do a New Year’s Eve show and it will be great.”

Martin will perform three different sets beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31. And he’s ready for the challenge. “My set has evolved into a time where anything can happen,” he says. “I like to stay involved with the audience and will bust out some cover songs that no one would expect from me.”

Martin considers himself a traditional country artist.

Growing up, he was influenced by Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry.

His musical tastes also crossed genres as he got into rock music like Van Halen and ZZ Top.

Those points of reference eventually merged together and helped give Martin his sound.

“It’s different from what country music is being played on the radio,” he says. “But I grew up a country boy and write about what I know.”

The Dirty Bourbon, Martin says, has earned quite a reputation among other indie country artists.

While on tour, he ran into multiple artists wanting to perform there.

“The venue is legit,” he says. “People have heard about it and the venue is in our backyard. It’s awesome to know that. I have respect for that. For the set, I want to do something completely different for each one.”
