Roswell, Hobbs events canceled

At Rio Rancho, hosts, ’Dogs win

-

Post-Christmas 2015 prep basketball may be remembered for the games that weren’t played as much as those that will be.

On Monday, organizers of the Poe Corn Tournament in Roswell and the Hobbs Holiday Classic waved the white flag. Because of the winter storm that blasted their region, those tourneys were canceled.

Hobbs had delayed the start of its event from Monday to today, then gave up completely. Clovis on Sunday had canceled its tournament.

The result is that at least four APS teams — West Mesa’s girls, Sandia’s boys, and both Highland squads — have lost three games to the weather. That is, unless APS can arrange to schedule make-up games against other programs that don’t have a full schedule.

Weather permitting, the Holiday Hoopla girls tournament will take place today through Thursday at Oñate High in Las Cruces.

The tournament includes Mayfield, Las Cruces High, Oñate, Hobbs, Rio Rancho, Sandia, El Paso Coronado and El Paso Americas.
