STILL HURTING for the Lobos losing in Hawaii. I was hoping that this year, Obij Aget would start improving and become a beast. 3,4 pts., 3,4 rebs. a game. C’mon. With those big hands, catch the ball. Teach him please.

A COACH WHO is also a father cannot accurately judge his son’s talent nor treat him equally as he does the other team members. He will either be too harsh or too easy on “son”. The only way I have seen it work is if “son” is clearly the best player and the hardest worker on the team, i.e., Creighton’s extraordinary basketball player, Doug McDermott. Otherwise “son” should go play for someone else.

HOW COME Coach Alford doesn’t have the same problem with his son that Noodles has with his son?

THE NAME Markel Byrd will forever live in Lobo lore. Byrd going one-on-one with the Boise State player and tackling him at the 4 yard line to give the Lobos the win will be an image forever frozen in our minds. UNM should take that picture, honor him and his family at next year’s season opener and put a plaque in a prominent setting so that he will never be forgotten. For those who are able to do so, hopefully contributions will continue to be sent to Byrd’s GoFundMe account, as well as the account of his girlfriend, Alexus Ortiz, for her recovery.

THE LATEST judicial intrusion into our school athletic scene prompts me to wonder about the kid who got strings pulled by the bench to let him compete in the state high school wrestling tournament to save his promising future as a college matman -- just how well has that “promising future” progressed?
