GRAMMY-WINNING TRIO FINISHING NEW ALBUM, HEADING BACK OUT ON TOUR
Twenty-four hours.
This is the amount of time that Reid Perry gets to have at home before flying out for more performances.
It’s not a lot of time, but he’s making the most of it.
“I’m actually doing laundry,” he says with a laugh. “I don’t think I’m even home for 24 full hours. It’s been a pretty hectic couple of weeks.”
Perry and his siblings — Kimberly and Neil — make up the country trio The Band Perry.
The Grammy Award-winning trio has been busy at work on its third full-length album, its first since the band split with Big Machine Records.
In the past few weeks, the trio also took the stage as part of “The Today Show” for its Citi Concert Series.
Oh, and the trio’s single “Live Forever” was picked as the official song for the U.S. team heading to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
“It’s an honor to participate with the Olympics,” he says. “When we look at the extent of us, we can barely keep up with an athlete. We’ve been known to fall on stage, and we’ll have to be more graceful.”
Perry says that the album will be out this year and that “Live Forever” got everyone looking at the band’s direction for the next album.
He says the band recently finished working with a string section on some of the album.
“We’re about 97.3 percent done,” he says. “We’re getting pretty excited about it. We’re getting some of the business pieces together. The three of us can’t be happier where it is. These songs get stuck in our own head.”
Perry says “Live Forever” is very anthemic, which is part of the reason the U.S. team chose it.
And this is the direction the band is going.
“We’ve been writing separately, but our best songs come from the three of us,” he says. “We are putting an emphasis on melody and want each song to be as big as possible. We’re looking for big beats to grab the fans’ attention. We have been playing a few during our concerts, and we can’t wait for the world to hear the whole album.”
