Miller says there’s no chance he’ll play under tag

- BY CINDY BOREN THE WASHINGTON POST

After saying earlier this week that he wanted to play for the Denver Broncos “forever,” Von Miller sent a stern message about the 2016 season to the team, writing that there is “no chance” he would play under the franchise tag.

“I love my Teammates, Coaches, and My Fans,” he wrote on Instagram, “but there is ‘No Chance’ I play the 2016 season under the Franchise tag.”

In an interview with Chelsea Handler that was posted Wednesday on Netflix, the Super Bowl 50 MVP said that his long-term plan is to be a Bronco. It’s the short-term that remains unsettled.

“I want to be a Bronco forever. I just want the feeling to be the same from the Broncos,” Miller said. “We still have a month. I just can’t see myself — my boys T.J. Ward, Aqib Talib, Kayvon Webster, DeMarcus Ware, all those guys. … I built very, very close relationships with all those guys, and I would like to continue to build that for the rest of my career.”

The outside linebacker turned down the Broncos’ six-year, $114.5 million offer last week, including $58.5 million in guaranteed money. It no doubt caught Miller’s attention when the Philadelphia Eagles recently agreed to a six-year, $103 million contract with defensive lineman Fletcher Cox. Guaranteed money in that deal is $63 million and $55.54 million will be fully guaranteed by March 2017.

If Miller and the Broncos cannot agree to a long-term deal by July 15, he will either play the season under a one-year franchise tag, earning $14.1 million, or he will not play.
