ROAD RULES

Daily Grind builds grassroots success through steady touring

- By Adrian Gomez

It takes a lot of hard work to reach goals. This is the mantra Pennsylvaniabased alternative rock band Daily Grind lives by. And since 2012, the band’s work ethic has helped it get four national tours under its belt.

“It’s a lot of hard work,” Matt Majot says during a pit stop in Charleston, S.C. “Being on the road has become a way of life for us, and we’re embracing it, as hard as it may be.”

Daily Grind formed in 2012 and has done everything on a grass-roots level. In the early days of the band, the members would hand out demos to friends at the house shows they played.

They performed throughout college and have taken the band on full time.

Majot and crew released the band’s debut album, “I Did Those Things,” on May 13.

The band is rounded out with Brad Hammer, Reid Campbell and Myles Mahoney.

“It’s all happened very fast,” he says.

Majot says the album was recorded in a two-moth span at The Wilderness Recording Studio by producer J. Vega and mastered by Grammy winner Kramer.

“The record is a culmination of the time and effort we have spent establishing our sound,” he says. “We love rock music and wanted our sound to be as full and powerful as we could make it.”

Majot says working on the debut album was very different from working on any other release.

He says working with Vega, was an amazing opportunity.

“He would sit down with us and make the parts of the songs better,” he says. “It was like having a fifth member of the band. He helped everything flow.”

Majot says the members of the band have all learned something about life on the road.

“We definitely know now that it’s not glamorous at all,” he says. “Our first tour, we were so out of our element. We’ve become more confident in everything we do now. We’re excited to make it back to Albuquerque. The last time we were there, we stopped to sleep. So this will be our first time performing in the city, and we’re doing it at a brewery.”
