Kiesov, William Jr.

January 12, 1927June 12, 2016 Born in Santa Fe, NM, to William Kiesov and Mabel Edna (Piatt). The Great and Powerful Bill has passed! He was: Wizard of tube technology (he built a battery-powered radio when he was 10 years old), Master of colorful language, Mr. Science Fiction, Raconteur extraordinaire, long-time resident of Bernalillo, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Bill graduated from electronics school top of his class. Serving aboard the attack transport USS Elkhart (APA-80), he arrived in the Pacific theatre in time to witness the fighter planes flying over Enewetak Atoll in the VJ formation.

Oh the stories he could tell! Typhoons, transporting the 5th Marine Division from Guam to Tsingtao China, Chinese troops from French Indochina to Korea, almost getting “Shanghaied” (yes, in Shanghai), service aboard the USS Pasadena (CL-65), Flagship of the 7th Fleet, training our Turkish allies in electronics, working the Nevada test sites, his time at Sandia Labs . . . half the time I had no idea what he was talking about! The last Kiesov is survived by his sister Diana’s (Joe Sanchez) daughter, his beloved niece, Elaine Johnson (Jeremiah); a few cousins, the Sosa “girls”; and special friend, Margot Kyrlach.

Bill has been cremated, his ashes to be returned to the Pacific Ocean. Anchors Aweigh! “Riiiiight!”
