Don’t settle for lesser evil: Vote Johnson

Faced with two unacceptable candidates, responsible course is to pick good option

A typical Duke City Tuesday night, we sang karaoke at a bar not too far from I-25. The economic level in the crowd ranged from flat broke to taking flights to Hawaii with high-school sweethearts.

Racially, members of the group would have selfapplied the whole range: native, Mexican, black, white, Viking, Spanish, and a few more colorful terms unfit for contemporary print. Wilbur the flower guy walked up, a familiar sight. “Did you hear about Melania Trump’s speech?” he asked.

“Yes,” I replied, with disgust, shaking my head. And we talked about plagiarism, how they all do it, how all of those who lead us now, on either side of the isle, are unintelligent fools.

Albert Einstein once said that creativity is intelligence having fun; politics has become stupidity having fun.

Most likely a life-long Republican, Wilbur searched for some way to find a silver lining in the Republican Party, other than it being not the Democratic Party, when the false binary of our current political process coming keenly into focus. Then a loud voice rang out: “I’m voting for Gary Johnson.” “So am I!” came the first response. “So am I!” came the next, and soon the statement “I’m voting for Gary Johnson” radiated out with a cacophony of voices.

Those voices much stamp out those who will surely say that voting third party is wasting a vote. Gary Johnson can and will win New Mexico. We can make that happen.

Do not deceive yourself by thinking that one of these two candidates is the lesser of two evils. Both Trump and Clinton are terrible. We all know this. We have a whining, blathering idiot who speaks in tweets and a self-indulgent power-crazed harpy. Neither cares about this country beyond seeing it as a medium through which power and wealth might be obtained. Braggadocio versus banality. And even if you have somehow convinced yourself to vote for either Trump or Clinton, can you not see that such person in charge of this country would lead to division?

These are just two different kinds of wannabe dictators, two who think the presidency is a prize to be claimed, a line item on a perfect résumé.

Neither Trump nor Clinton is acceptable in a country with a rich history, seeped in freedom. Electing either one will tear this nation apart.

If faced with two bad choices, a responsible citizen must choose a third option, one that is not bad but good. This should be obvious.

We can make that happen by stating the obvious. If you agree, say it, and say it loud:

“I’m voting for Gary Johnson.”
