Another chance for murder suspect

-

SANTA FE — William Kelley, 65, will be given another chance to await his upcoming homicide trial on house arrest, as long as he doesn’t forget to take another court-ordered alcohol test.

Kelley — accused of killing his daughter Julieanne Kelley at their Agua Fria mobile home in January 2015 — was booked into the Santa Fe County jail July 6 for missing two alcohol tests, required under his conditions of release, pending trial. Kelley’s attorney, Tony Scarborough, argued at a court hearing Friday that Kelley doesn’t have an alcohol problem and simply forgot to take the tests. Kelley missed scheduled self-administered 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. tests on July 5, but an 8 p.m. test registered no blood alcohol content.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said Friday that she added the alcohol test provision to Kelley’s conditions of release, which also required him to pay $10,000 cash to bond out of jail and to remain on house arrest, because she wanted to make sure alcohol wasn’t a problem.

“We’ll try it one more time, Mr. Kelley, but you have to comply,” she said.

Kelley is accused of murdering Julieanne Kelley after an argument on Jan. 15, 2015. An autopsy report revealed that she died of 30 to 35 stab and chop wounds.
