KINDRED SPIRTS ANIMAL SANCTUARY,
a nonprofit eldercare and hospice for dogs, horses and poultry, will hold its annual art show fundraiser on 10 a.m.-4 p.m. August 6 at Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary, 20 minutes south of Santa Fe on NM 14, ½-mile south of the Lone Butte General Store. THE FIRST TEE OF GREATER ALBUQUERQUE will hold a corporate golf tournament at the Albuquerque Country Club on August 8. BUILDING FUTURES & FOUNDATIONS MENTORING PROJECT
helps teens and young adults aging out of the foster care system, about 100 every year in New Mexico. This transition can be very difficult. We support these young people, before and after they age out by training community volunteers. NEW MEXICO KIDS MATTER, formerly Albuquerque CASA, believes every child who has been abused and neglected and in foster care deserves to have a dedicated volunteer advocate speaking up for them in court, at school and in our community. Volunteers to go through training to become Court Appointed Special Advocated (CASA) for children in CYFD custody. Volunteers come from every walk of life and share a commitment to improving children’s lives, a willingess to learn, and an open mind towards life experiences different from their own. WINGS FOR LIFE INTERNATIONAL breaks the generational cycle of incarceration in families by strengthening family relationships. Wings reduces recidivism and keeps children out of prison. Wings teaches manners, life skills and ways to improve quality of life by providing programming that addresses money, jobs, parenting, communication and other issues. MANDY’S FARM, a nonprofit that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, seeks donations of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizer/soap, non-latex gloves, wipes for personal care, cases of office paper, board games, puzzles and/or playing cards. MDC REQUEST FOR BOOKS Chaplain Quinton Fletcher at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), requests gently used or new paperback books (no hardbacks are allowed in the facility) for each of the 20 pods. Books can be third grade reading level to books for PhD level inmates; also childrens books for the books shelf in the lobby and for inmates to read to their children, covering all subjects. The need for children’s books are minimal compared to need for books for the inmate population. Deliver the books to MDC, Attn: Chaplain Quinton Fletcher, 100 Deputy Dean Miera Dr. SW, Albuquerque or call 839-8718 for more information.
THE O.S.C.A.R. FOUNDATION LLC, The Organization For Specialized Care in Animal Rehabilitation, an all-volunteer nonprofit raises funds for financial assistance to qualified owners when their pets are in need of veterinary services. Unforseen circumstances can occur, such as surgery and/or physical rehabilitation. O.S.C.A.R. does not want pet owners to have to euthanize or surrender their pets when faced with having to pay veterinary bills or buy groceries, medicine or pay the rent.
