RRPS holds forum on $60 million bond election
Rio Rancho Public Schools will hold a special public forum on the upcoming $60 million bond election Monday evening.
The event runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Loma Colorado Library, 755 Loma Colorado Drive NE. It includes a presentation to outline bond projects, and a chance to ask questions.
“We will provide over-arching information on the bond,” said Beth Pendergrass, RRPS spokeswoman. “We invite everyone to come and learn more.”
The Aug. 30 bond election will fund $60 million in district capital projects across a variety of areas, including:
$24.5 million: New Joe Harris Elementary School
$15.5 million: Shining Stars Preschool building
$9 million: General building upgrades and renovation
$7 million: Technology equipment and infrastructure
$3 million: Real estate purchases
$1 million: Security upgrades and improvements
Pendergrass said district officials are working hard to inform the public about the bond through the forum, a detailed website and a speakers’ bureau, which is presenting to community groups.
RRPS holds bond elections every few years and has never lost one.
In February, neighboring Albuquerque Public Schools held a $375 million mill levy and $200 million bond election, and won by a comfortable margin.
