Lowe, Joan Redford

Joanie Lowe, 82, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at the University of New Mexico hospital feeling no pain and with her son at her side.

Joan was born in Wendell Idaho in 1933, to Viola and Andy Redford. Joan graduated high school in 1951 as a Weiser Wolverine. She graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in teaching. She swam on the Hell Divers swim team, was a proud Pi Beta Phi sorority member and always said that she loved attending the University of Idaho. She loved seeing her Pi Phi sorority sisters at reunions and functions up until her death and many of them remained her closest friends.

She married John Edward Lowe of Weiser, Idaho in 1956 and moved with him to Tuscan, Arizona where she had her first child John Steven. She then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she had David Andrew and then Theodore Brian Lowe.

Joan lived in New Mexico the rest of her life and taught school for Albuquerque Public Schools from 1980 until her retirement. She always had a positive attitude and loved teaching.

Later in life, Joan’s favorite activities were going to church and working in the Albuquerque LDS Temple.

She also loved her Palmer family reunions, high school reunions and her sorority functions. She was quite the socialite! She was also a wonderful piano player and played her entire life when heath permitted for both her church and for her family and friends.

She was a sports fanatic and thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandkids participate in a myriad of high school sports. She will be remembered as a great mother, grandmother, teacher, volunteer and a truly kind person without mean bone in her body.

We would like to thank many of you who helped her later in her life, in either getting her around or helping her enjoy being able to travel and visit many of the places she loved.

Joan’s ashes will be buried at the site of her mother and father’s graves in Caldwell, Idaho.
