HOROSCOPES BY HOLIDAY

-

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 21): Mistakes are proof that you’re trying. Rack up the mistakes through November — a true calling will come after repeatedly missing the mark. Enjoy the money from a surprise source in September; don’t be so practical with it that you later won’t remember where you used it. Big love is coming your way in January. Cancer and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 20, 14, 33 and 1.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): To bring full attention to dressing, eating, walking and the rest is a form of meditation. It’s almost impossible to execute, but you’ll learn something trying — namely how easily and often we fall out of the moment.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You’re not looking for love, but love is looking for you, and it will finally make eye contact this afternoon. The attention will trigger ancient and contradictory emotions, and you may feel like freezing, fleeing or fighting the attraction.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21): You want to learn, but you don’t like the feeling of being managed by an authority figure. This isn’t about the situation at hand; it’s about old baggage. If you challenge this authority, it will cut you free. Is that what you really want?

CANCER (June 22-July

22): People fit together for reasons other than can be seen on the surface. You will witness or be involved in a companionship that may seem superficially odd, but it works perfectly.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Your optimism will be naturally buoyed by smiling faces around you. You may find yourself looking forward to the simplest of tasks like something wonderful is going to happen — and so it does.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Family ties are complex and infuriating and imbued with all the necessary ingredients for your soul’s evolution. If it weren’t difficult, it wouldn’t be powerful.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23): What seems from the outside to be a normal little scene will read as something very different to you, as it perfectly illustrates and encapsulates a feeling from way back.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov.

21): The person who harbors resentment becomes a slave to the one he has contempt for and is essentially consumed with the angry focus that resentment demands. If you feel resentment, do what it takes to get free.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): The destination is still far off. To sweeten your sense of anticipation and keep you headed in the right direction, assign checkpoints along the way. There will be satisfaction in the achievement of each small goal.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): As for those skills you so want to possess that don’t come naturally to you — they didn’t come naturally to the masters you admire so much, either. These qualities must be cultivated, and you’ll do just that.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): When you come into the scene, you come to run it. This requires that you think ahead so that you’re in a proactive position, which is much stronger than a reactive position.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): You’ve tried and failed to communicate. Why didn’t it work? Maybe the problem isn’t you. After all, you can explain it to them, but you can’t understand it for them. Give it one more go before you give up.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: As much as we may try to conduct our life journeys in a linear fashion, they won’t occur that way. We are, after all, traveling by land, step by step, and therefore there are obstacles to avoid, bodies of water to either cross or circumnavigate, mountains to either scale, tunnel through or go around. The way is much longer for us than it would be for the crow.

If we had powers like Bran Stark’s in “Game of Thrones,” we could project our consciousness up to the mind of the bird. Closer to the sun, flight gives us the grand overview. From up here we might deem some of the wandering we were doing to be unnecessary. We might spot a more direct path. But one thing we cannot do from way up in the clouds is understand and experience the exhilarating vitality of fighting and overcoming the obstacles on the ground.

This era of the Virgo sun takes us back down to earth, into the work of life and dealing with the practicalities head-on. This is where the juice of life is. The fruits can only grow from a rooted place.
