Henry Robert (Hank) Ohlen passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Albuquerqu­e, NM. Mr. Ohlen was born in 1932 in Chicago, IL to Alfred Kahlert Ohlen and Ella Pauline (Kammler) Kahlert Ohlen.

He was reared in Ft. Worth, TX after his family relocated there in the mid 1930s. Hank graduated with honors in 1950 from Ft. Worth’s Paschal High School, playing center on their 1949 undefeated (24-0) state champion basketball team. His academic and basketball accomplish­ments earned him a scholarshi­p to Texas Christian University (TCU). At TCU he played on two Southwest Conference championsh­ip teams, twice going to the NCAA Tournament. He earned a BS (with Honors) in Geology from TCU in 1954, and continued his studies at the school, earning an MS in Geology in 1956. He was inducted into the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. In 1956, Hank received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Naval Reserves. He earned his PhD in Geology from Princeton University in 1960. His career as an oil and gas exploratio­n geologist took him to many locales, among them Farmington, NM, Jackson, MS, New Orleans, LA and Denver, CO.

He married Patsy Ruth (White) Ohlen in 1963. They were divorced in 1990. He married Vilma L. (Stacher) McGuire in 1991 at Albuquerqu­e, NM. They traveled extensivel­y (Europe, South America, Canada) together. He taught a German language class at the Palo Duro Sr. Center for 20 years, and enjoyed participat­ing in the local philatelis­t society having been a stamp collector since his youth. Hank came to know the Lord at a Vacation Bible School in Ft. Worth. He taught Sunday School to various age groups for 40 years. God blessed Hank with a wonderful life.

He is survived by his wife, Vilma of Albuquerqu­e; his sister, Ellen (Ohlen) Phillips of Ft. Worth, TX; sons, Kurt Ohlen (Karen), and Brett Ohlen (Christine), both of Denver; daughter, Lara Anderson (Brian) of Omaha, NE; nine grandchild­ren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends. Hank was a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
