Fatal crash may have link to texting

-

SANTA FE — Santa Fe police have obtained cellphone records of a woman who may have been texting on her mobile before she rear-ended a motorcyclist who later died from his injuries, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in Santa Fe District Court on Wednesday.

Megan Carrillo, 23, of Pecos, was driving northeast on Cerrillos Road when she hit Hicks, 39, from behind at 7:44 p.m. as he was slowing down at the intersection with Cristo’s Road just minutes after a massive power outage. Hicks was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries.

According to the affidavit, Carrillo told police that she was “texting and receiving text messages on her cellphone as she was driving on the roadway prior to the crash.” Court records show that no charges have been filed against her in the case.
