Bleached excited as new drummer joins for last leg of tour
Jennifer Clavin recently got back from a European tour. She has 10 days back at home before taking off on another tour — this time through the States. “We’re super crazy busy,” she says. “It’s been an exciting time for us.” Clavin is a member of the pop punk band Bleached. The band, which formed in 2011, is rounded out by Micayla Grace, Jessica Clavin and Nick Pillot.
The band’s latest album is “Welcome the Worms,” released on April 1.
With four months since the album’s release, Clavin is seeing a difference in the audience.
“When we went out on tour before the album, the audience was just getting familiar with the new songs,” she says. “This last European tour, the audiences were amazing. They were singing our songs and just getting into the show. It’s spectacular to see that happened during our shows.”
The road to making “Welcome the Worms” was full of ups and downs.
The band was still touring for 2013’s “Ride Your Heart,” when the writing began for the new album.
“We were touring so much that we didn’t have much time to write,” she says. “When we got back home to LA, it felt like we took a full two years to create the album.”
Though Bleached has never played Albuquerque, Clavin has performed in the city before with her previous band, Mika Miko, which disbanded in 2009.
“I love to just look around,” she says. “I’m looking forward to getting back there. The audiences have always supported what we do.”
As the band began preparing for its last leg of the tour, it added Pillot on drums.
She says being able to get Pillot to join the band was a crazy coincidence.
“He’s friends with our friends,” she says. “He’s super chill. It’s exciting to have him in the band. He has the same goals we have, and he’s here to help push us with our next project. We’re already working on an EP.”
