Ducks dress the part

EUGENE, Ore. — The newlook Ducks couldn’t pull out a victory Saturday.

Wearing green jerseys, white pants, and orange socks and shoes, the University of Oregon fell to visiting Colorado 41-38 on Saturday.

Steven Montez threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start and then Colorado held off Oregon for the Buffaloes’ first victory over the Ducks since joining the Pac-12 in 2011.

Ahkello Witherspoon intercepted Dakota Prukop’s pass to Darren Carrington in the end zone on Oregon’s final drive to preserve the win for Colorado (3-1).

Unheralded stars

Jerry Louie-McGee, Montana, had a school-record 21 catches for 155 yards and two TDs in a 42-41 loss to Cal Poly.

Amba Etta-Tawo, Syracuse, caught 12 passes for a schoolrecord 270 yards and two TDs to help the Orange beat UConn 31-24.

Drew Lock, Missouri, threw for 402 yards and a school record-tying five TD passes in a 79-0 rout of Delaware State.

Nick Shafnisky, Lehigh, threw for 461 yards and four TDs in a 42-28 win over Princeton.

Memphis QB Riley Ferguson threw six TD passes to six receivers and ran for a seventh score — all in the first half — tying a school record for most touchdowns responsible for in a 77-3 win over Bowling Green.

By the numbers

15: Straight losses to FBS teams by Western Illinois before upsetting Northern Illinois 28-23.

31: Deficit by Tulsa before rallying for a 48-41 victory over Fresno State, the largest comeback in school history.

37: Years since Chattanooga opened a season 4-0 before this year .

47: Completions by Montana’s Brady Gustafson in a 42-41 loss to Cal Poly, breaking the school record.

Good game/bad game

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Although Indiana was a 33-28 loser at home to Wake Forest, Hoosiers quarterback Richard Lagow had a record-breaking day.

He finished 28-for-47, with three TD passes, and broke the school’s single-game record with 496 yards — including a 49-yard TD pass with 11 seconds left in the game. Eight of the passes went to Ricky Jones, who had 208 yards.

However, one of the reasons Indiana lost was because Lagow threw five interceptions.

The victory was Wake Forest’s fourth straight to open the season.

High-scoring Tigers

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Drew Lock threw a school recordtying five touchdown passes, and Missouri shattered its school scoring record Saturday, dismantling Delaware State 79-0.

The previous record of 69 points has occurred three times, most recently on Sept. 17, 2011, when the Tigers shut out Western Illinois.

60-minute men

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A week ago, South Carolina State was en route to being clobbered 59-0 at Clemson and asked the host school to shave the third and fourth quarters to 12 minutes apiece to help end their misery sooner.

A week later, SCSU played a full game as Caleb York threw four touchdown passes in an overpowering 48-14 win over Florida A&M in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

30-minute men

MANHATTAN, Kan. — It took Kansas State only a half to dismantle Missouri State on Saturday night. Good thing, too. The Wildcats didn’t get a second half.

Jesse Ertz threw two touchdown passes and Winston Dimel added two touchdown runs as the Wildcats beat Missouri State 35-0 in a game called at halftime as lightning lit up the skies around Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
