CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES

Chicago wins the series 4-1 over the Detroit Tigers. It is the club’s second World Series win, having also won in 1907.

Henry Ford begins production of the Model-T.

There are 16 teams in the MLB.

The United States has 46 states.

Halley’s Comet is visible. The comet, which appears every 75-76 years, won’t be seen again until 1986.

The Cubs win the NL pennant but lose in the World Series to the Philadelph­ia Athletics.

They make many more World Series appearance­s (1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, 1945) but never win the title.
