Winter items for homeless needed
Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque, in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Albuquerque, is once again conducting “Operation Keep Warm,” an annual project to collect and distribute winter items to the homeless.
“Havenly Angels” donation boxes will be located at sites throughout Albuquerque to collect new hats, scarves, gloves and socks that will be donated to local organizations that serve the homeless the week of Christmas.
Mental illness is the thirdlargest cause of homelessness, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Haven Behavioral Hospital says that every day it treats individuals who have no home to return to upon discharge.
Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque, 5400 Gibson SE, provides inpatient psychiatric stabilization and treatment to older adults experiencing acute symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood swings or psychosis.
