Huggins scores 26, Aggies top Long Beach

LAS CRUCES — Braxton Huggins scored 26 points and New Mexico State held off Long Beach State for a 93-85 victory on Saturday night.

The Aggies (7-2) won their fifth straight and improve to 6-0 at home.

Huggins was 7 of 15 from the floor and made five 3-pointers. Eli Chuha had 19 points and Sidy N’Dir added 18. Jemerrio Jones chipped in 10 points and 13 rebounds for New Mexico State, which shot 50 percent from the field on 27-of-54 shooting. Ian Baker had 15 points, and now is 40 shy of 1,000 career points.

Justin Bibbins scored 18 points to lead Long Beach State (1-9). Noah Blackwell added 13 points. (8) GONZAGA 69, (16) ARIZONA 62): In Los Angeles, Przemek Karnowski scored 18 points as Gonzaga won in the inaugural Hoophall LA doublehead­er at Staples Center.

Josh Perkins added 16 points for the Zags (8-0), who beat the Wildcats (6-2) for the first time since 2011 after losing six of the previous seven matchups. (2) VILLANOVA 88, ST. JOSEPH’S 57: In Villanova, Pa., Josh Hart had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead Villanova (8-0) past St. Joe’s (3-4).

Hart hit three 3s and made six of 10 shots from the field overall.
