SPORTS SPEAK UP!

DIDN’T SOMEONE

say on Sports Speak Up! that the Sun Belt Conference is better than the Mountain West? Idaho 61-50 over CSU, South Alabama 42-24 over SDSU and NMSU 32-31 over Billy Joe Jim Bob’s Lobos. Numbers don’t lie. The Mountain West is officially the worst football conference in the country.

UNM IS OFFERING a special for the Fresno State game on December 28 of 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 drinks for $60, which is a good deal. Unfortunately, the Pit ticket office is closed Dec. 23, not to reopen again until 4 p.m., a few hours before tip-off. Until somebody at UNM realizes that they are in the entertainment/service industry, there won’t be much response. Also ... they could make money giving group tours of the Pit from December 26-30 for $10 bucks a pop. Wake up!

COACH NEAL may not look very good at this point, but he should have the season to finish. Knee-jerking it to run him isn’t the answer. It may be a 2 for 1 with AD as well . ... And should they not retain Coach, how many players stay, and how many leave. Do we lose all of the new recruits? That is a strong point to consider. It could or would damage it even more so. I’m not too sure the athletic program can sustain that.

N.M. PROMOTER hit it on the nail! Bill Walton’s comments regarding New Mexico during the Arizona basketball game were superb. Growing up and born in Los Angeles, I kept up with his career and he was a true champion at UCLA and an NBA champ at Portland. If there was an opening at UNM to coach basketball I would take him in a second. However he’s having too much fun being Bill Walton . ... As for the Lobos it’s apparently going to take time. As John Wooden would say “be quick but don’t hurry”.

SAW ON THE NET where Cullen (Neal) had 20 assists and 1 turnover in the last 3 games. Let’s see how he does against Kentucky while the Lobos are hoping for a win against Fresno.

Neal had 11 points, nine assists and no turnovers in Ole Miss’ most recent game, a 92-58 win Thursday over South Alabama. The Rebels play Kentucky this coming Thursday. — Randy, Journal

ABQDON: MY POINT is, you would think that a team that calls itself “America’s Team” would be able to sell out their stadium. There are several college teams with 100,000 plus seating capacity stadiums that are able to achieve that recognition. Also, it’s safe to say that at least 25 percent of 92,400 average are rooting for the opponents. Just ask Jerry Jones.

THANKS NFL for ramming (Dallas) down everyone’s throats. I mean really, four prime-time games in a row. Gee, I wonder why the Cowboys are the richest NFL franchise.

THE UGLIEST bust at Canton: Jerry Jones.

— Cubs win just in time for some fans; unfortunately the Cubs win was not in time for many, many more fans (now deceased) whose annual Christmas wish for a pennant for the Cubs went unfulfilled for decades. — BigChris
