Mother, six children missing after abuse accusation
Albuquerque police were searching Friday for six missing children and their mother, who was accused of beating and sexually assaulting her 14-yearold son earlier this month.
The missing kids range in age from 3 months to 14 years, and police spokesman Daren DeAguero said officers believe they are with their mother, 36-year-old Genoveva Fazio.
One of Fazio’s 14-year-old sons, who is not among the kids reported missing, showed up at the Albuquerque Police Department’s Southwest Substation around 3 a.m. Dec. 18 after escaping what he described as a brutal attack by his mother.
The boy said Fazio accused him of molesting one of his younger siblings, and she punched and kicked him all over his body, according to an arrest warrant filed for Fazio. Fazio then pulled down the boy’s pants and grabbed his genitals and started tugging on them, “causing him excruciating pain,” an officer wrote in the arrest warrant affidavit.
Fazio bit the boy on his buttocks and shoulder and then ordered him into the shower, fully clothed, and turned on the cold water. Afterward, she wrapped him in a blanket and tied rope around it so the boy couldn’t move, according to the affidavit.
The boy escaped when she left the house and ran half a mile barefoot to APD’s southwest substation. He was taken to a hospital.
Officers couldn’t find Fazio that morning, so they issued a warrant for her on three felony charges, including child abuse and criminal sexual contact of a minor. The last time she or the six missing children were seen was that day at their home in the 500 block of 59th NW, according to DeAguero.
The missing children are Ameth Fazio-Yonker, a 3- to 5-month old boy; Jedidiah FazioLee, a 5-year-old boy; Ariel Fazio, a 10-year-old girl; Jarod Fazio, a 10-year-old boy; Zion FazioStone, a 13-year-old boy; and Xavier Fazio, a 14-year-old boy.
DeAguero said Friday morning that he didn’t have pictures of the children, but said they all have black hair and hazel eyes.
It’s unclear from the arrest warrant whether police investigated Fazio’s accusation that her 14-year-old son who she allegedly beat up molested a younger sibling.
