Although she tried multiple avenues of escape, police were able to take a 30-year-old woman into custody Thursday on charges of receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle, according to a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department.

Officer Fred Duran said Reyanon Duncan was first taken into custody outside a motel located on Hotel Circle near Eubank and Interstate 40 after police watched her leave a room and get into a stolen vehicle shortly after 11:30 a.m. Officers had been patrolling the area and noticed two other stolen vehicles in the parking lot.

She was armed with a gun and claimed there was a bomb in her room, Duran said.

“Officers evacuated the motel and were able to clear the motel and determined there was no bomb or threat to the public,” he said.

Duran said two other people in the room were detained, but he said police didn’t have charges on them and they were released.

When police took Duncan into custody she told them she is pregnant and had to go to the hospital for pain.

Once there, she tried to escape through the ceiling.

“While she was at the hospital being checked by hospital staff, she managed to gain access to the ceiling and exited the ceiling where officers were at just outside of her exam room,” Duran said.

Police say Duncan has a long criminal history, including several crime sprees involving breaking into locker rooms at gyms to steal car keys.
