Legislators should not try to disarm legal gun-owners

-

NEW MEXICO legal gun-owners, we have a serious problem. Democratic senators Richard Martinez and Peter Wirth, and Democratic Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard are accepting bills written by out-of-state gun control group “Everytown for Gun Safety” to attempt passage by the New Mexico Legislature.

Senate Bill 48 and House Bill 50 are a result of Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun crusade. They are attempting to brand them as “the gun show loophole” and gun shows are not mentioned in either one.

The measures would follow California’s strict gun law that says you cannot loan a gun to your son, daughter, brother without accompanying said person to the gun range or hunt each time. A gun given as a gift, exchange for currency, a loan would have to be treated as a sale through a federally licensed gun dealer with background checks and fees. The bills continue on with many more restrictions. It is my opinion, as well as (that of) millions of gun owners across the country, that the United States of America is free of attempted armed take-overs because of our freedom to possess firearms. Any foreign organization would remember 1776.

It seems to me that New Mexico legislators have more important state business to conduct than to try to disarm the lawful citizens. Do they not understand that criminals do not pay attention to the foolish laws legislators pass in the Roundhouse? BOB PRICKETT Albuquerque
