Christodoulou to head UNM engineering
The University of New Mexico has tapped longtime professor and administrator Christos G. Christodoulou to head the School of Engineering.
Christodoulou, now associate dean for research for the School of Engineering, will become dean July 1 when Joseph Cecchi steps down from the post, UNM announced Wednesday.
“I am very pleased to have Christos join UNM’s senior leadership team,” UNM Acting President Chaouki Abdallah said in a written statement.
Abdallah described Christodoulou as a “talented administrator who cares deeply about UNM and the School of Engineering” and a distinguished professor in electrical and computer engineering.
Christodoulou was selected following a nationwide search, Abdallah said.
Christodoulou will lead a program that enrolls 2,314 bachelor’s students, 367 master’s students and 420 doctoral students.
As dean, he will hold an endowed chair called the Jim and Ellen King Dean of Engineering and Computing, which is now held by Cecchi.
Christodoulou joined the UNM faculty in 1999 as a professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the engineering honors department.
He served as the chairman of the electrical and computer engineering department from 1999 to 2005.
He co-founded COSMIAC, the Configurable Space Microsystems Innovations and Applications Center, which performs space electronics research, and directed the center from 2012 to 2014.
